Why you should own an electric vehicle
As the world looks towards green energy, the automotive industry has already made strides towards creating affordable yet eco-friendly electric vehicles. By 2035 there will be no new diesel or petrol cars sold in the UK. Statistics show that at the end of December 2023, there were around 975,000 electric vehicles on the road and a further 590,000 plug-in hybrid vehicles on UK roads.
With that in mind, more and more people are opting for electric cars when they are looking for a new car. If you are considering it, here are some reasons why owning an electric car is the way forward.
Environmentally Friendly
Perhaps the most obvious pro of purchasing an electric car is the environmental benefits. We all need to lower our CO2 emissions and private vehicles were responsible for 25% of oil use across the globe in 2022.
By switching to an electric vehicle, you are investing in the future by incorporating green energy into your life. As more and more people make the switch to electric vehicles the air will be cleaner leading to better respiratory health for everyone, especially those in larger cities.
Cheaper to Run
Electric vehicles, or EVs, work out cheaper to run in both the short and long term. Initially, electricity is cheaper than fuel, so it costs less to run your car on a day-to-day basis. You will also save money on road tax as electric vehicles are exempt from this charge until 2035. Although this isn’t much, it does add up over the next few years.
Low emissions zones have started to be introduced across the country. Electric vehicle owners need not worry though, as in certain areas such as London, electric cars are exempt from any charges. Plus, you may start to notice that exclusive electric vehicle bays popping up outside supermarkets and at service stations. This means you will be able to charge your car whenever you need.
You may be able to get some financial assistance with buying a new electric car in the form of various grants from the government.
Less Maintenance
When you compare the specifications of an electric car compared to a petrol or diesel one, you will notice that certain components are missing from the electric car. This is simply because the electric car does not need them.
If there are fewer parts to the car, then there are fewer parts that need regular checks. This will save you money in the future, as well as make your vehicle easier to understand as a non-professional.
More Convenient to Use
Even as a pedestrian, you will have noticed how much quieter electric cars are than petrol cars. This makes for a better driving experience, especially on faster roads.
Electric cars are also very responsive with great torque which you will notice as you zip around. When you combine this with top-of-the-range tyres, you will feel like you are driving a high-performance vehicle.
